In Agra, almost 28 COVID-19 patients died within 48 hours of their admission at Agra’s SN Medical College (SNMC). This was revealed in an audit done by a UP government panel. They have now sought a detailed report from the government hospital and health authorities. The report will include the feedback of the victims families also. Till now, Agra has witnessed 75 COVID-19 deaths in UP, which is followed by Meerut with 61 fatalities.

On Saturday, the two-member panel, which is headed by UP’s power secretary M Devraj, had ordered an investigation after auditing all the 75 deaths in the district. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has appointed Devraj as a COVID-19 nodal officer for Agra district. The special team was referred to review the current pandemic situation in Agra district.

In search of details about the 28 patients, the panel has asked the health department to provide details about their admission date, any health issues they were facing apart from the coronavirus infection, medications and treatment given to them and the names of the doctors who had attended them and the exact cause of their death, etc. The investigation will also include the feedback of the family members of the deceased person.

As per the norms, after the death of a COVID-19 patient, a death audit report is been prepared and is done by a team that is headed by the additional director of the health department. The panel has senior professors of King George’s Medical University in Lucknow. Dr Rahul Janak Sinha, is one of the other member who reviewed the death audit reports and after the inspection, they concluded that the 28 deaths needed to be investigated.

District magistrate Prabhu N Singh said that the death of 28 COVID-19 patients will be investigated and the detailed report will be sent to the state government.

32 COVID-19 positive people have died in Agra district in the past 20 days. On an average, since 1st June, three coronavirus patients are dying every 48 hours. As per the health department, many of COVID-19 patients had died due to comorbid conditions and almost 85% were above 50 years of age. Apart from the coronavirus infection, these patients were suffering from respiratory ailments, heart disease, diabetes and kidney problems.

Chief medical officer Dr RC Pandey said that few of the patients who had died were brought to the hospital very late and in critical conditions. Their doctors are trying hard to save the lives of all the patients. The number of critical patients tested positive for COVID-19 has significantly increased in the past few weeks. Also, patients with breathing troubles are provided with oxygen support.
